BOSTON – The Dartmouth women's track & field team started their 2015-16 indoor campaign Saturday at the BU Season Opener.
The non-scoring meet was held at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.
The day got off to a great start for the Big Green as Meghan Grela won the mile with a 4:58.85, while Grace Thompson was third in 5:02.96.
Just a few races later, Jennifer Meech kept things going by winning the 500m, crossing in 1:14.52, less than a quarter of a second ahead of BC's Robin Gross (1:14.75). Aliyah Gallup was third in the same race in 1:15.04.
On the infield, Kaitlin Whitehorn started off her senior season strongly by winning the high jump, clearing 5-8.75/1.75m, nearly four inches better than anyone else in the event.
Whitehorn continued her stellar start by winning the 200m in 25:15.
Bridget Flynn was solid in the 1000m, winning the event in 2:53.35 with Marisa Magsarili taking fifth in 3:04.29. Bridget Douglas was also a winner, taking home the top spot in the weight throw with a toss of 49-6.25/15.09m.
The shot put saw Melissa Dunham win her flight with a throw of 38-9.50/11.82m, taking sixth overall, while Amelia Ali's 35-7.75/10.86m was second in the same flight and 11th overall. Former Big Green thrower Emmaline Berg was first, competing for Shore Athletic Club.
In the pole vault, Kaitlin McCallum took second in clearing 11-11.75/3.65m. Stephanie Brown was tied for fourth with an 11-7.75/3.55m.
The 4x400m relay team claimed fifth in 4:02.72.
