HANOVER, N.H. – Chris Hamilton, the Dartmouth men's and women's diving coach, was one of three people inducted into the Maine Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame in Lewiston over the weekend.
Hamilton, who just wrapped up his 15th season with the Big Green diving teams, got his start at Bangor High School, where he was a three-time state champion diver, an All-American football player and a member of the state championship baseball team that went 20-0 in 1985.
At Southern Connecticut State, he was named the Division II Diver of the Year after claiming the national title on the 1-meter diving board in 1993. He was also named the New England Division I and II Diver of the Year and was a five-time All-American during his time as an Owl.
Hamilton has more than two decades of coaching experience, having assisted for many years at the collegiate level prior to arriving at Dartmouth. He coached at Albertus Magnus in New Haven, Connecticut, before returning to his alma mater in 1996, where he coached six Division II All-America divers and one national champion.
In his 15 years with the Big Green, he has had much success at the Ivy League Championship over the years. In 2010, Erica Serpico was first on 1-meter, earning first team All-Ivy honors as the Green's first champion since 1999. Katie Feng was named the 2013 Highpoint Diver and was first team All-Ivy for winning on 3-meter, which was a first for Dartmouth.
During the 2013-14 season, Brett Gillis broke two Mike Brown records that had held since 1970: 3-meter (377.55) against Columbia and 1-meter (361.15) at the Ivy League Championship. As a junior this season, he represented Dartmouth with his 23rd-place finish in the preliminary round on the 1-meter board (259.05) and a 17th-place finish in the finals on 3-meter (610.90). He is just one of the 28 divers that Hamilton has guided to the NCAA Zone Championship over the years.
