ATLANTA -- Diver
McCoy Lyman made his NCAA Championship debut on Thursday at the men's national championship meet at Georgia Tech. He is the first Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team member to compete at the national championship meet since 2014 and the first diver to compete since 1999. Justin Sodokoff '21 qualified for the championships in 2020 but was unable to compete due to the global pandemic. McCoy competed on 1-meter, finishing in 35th place with a final score of 275.95.
"McCoy showed a lot of growth in his diving and mental fortitude today. NCAAs is a very high pressure environment and he performed well in his first experience competing with the best divers in the nation. I'm excited to see him continue to carry this momentum into the 3 meter event tomorrow." Diving coach
Chris Hamilton said.
"I am very proud of the way McCoy competed today," added Head Coach
Milana Socha. "The way this diving competition is set up isn't like any other meet he has experienced. To come in and be able to build up over the final three rounds moving himself up significantly shows what a competitor he can be. Today he gained invaluable experience and I am excited to see what he can do tomorrow."
