PHILADELPHIA — The Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team wrapped up its weekend at Penn, falling to the host Quakers 184-116 and to Yale 218-82. Among the highlights were top 10 finishes, event wins and a Penn pool record.
Â
"This was a very fast meet for early January with all teams really getting up and going," said head coach
Milana Socha. "Having members of the team set lifetime best times at this point in the season is very exciting as that is really hard to do. Our divers were very dominant against Penn and really stepped up against Yale and provided our highest scoring individual events of the weekend.
Andrew Chou and
Tommy Erwin had some lights-out swims that got everyone fired up.
Â
Andrew Chou impressed in the 100 backstroke with a time of 47.10, breaking Penn's pool record on his way to becoming the overall event champion, which was third in program history — just shy of his school-record performance from midseason.
Â
Tommy Erwin was stellar in the 1000 freestyle, posting a lifetime best time of 9:12.28 and securing a win against Penn in the event.
Â
Aiden Sandvig had a lifetime best in the 50 and 100 freestyle, with times of 21.05 and 45.62, respectively (the 100 free came when he led off the C-400 freestyle relay).
Jagger Stachtiaris posted a lifestyle best in the 50 butterfly relay (26.64), which was a split as part of a relay.
Â
Jacob Turner secured a win against Penn in the 200 IM with a time of 1:46.88, finishing second overall.
Â
In diving, the Big Green were1-2 against Penn in the 1-meter, with
Everett Tai (290.65) and
Aryeh Lesch (253.60) finishing ahead of any Quakers student-athletes. Dartmouth finished first through third against Penn in the 3-meter as well, behind Tai (323.20),
Adam Man (287.65) and Lesch (284.90).
Â
The Big Green also had all-time top 10 program performances
Â
- #3 in the 100 Backstroke – Andrew Chou 47.10
- #4 in the 1000 Freestyle – Tommy Erwin 9:12.28
- #6 in the 200 Medley Relay – Chou, Kushnirsky, Stachtiaris, McClelland 1:29.08
Â
Dartmouth returns to action at home next weekend when the Big Green host UMass in the Tate Ramsden Invitational, beginning on Friday with the first session at 5 p.m. Friday is Pride Night, with Senior Recognition set for Saturday. The sessions Saturday are set for 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Â
"It is going to be exciting to see what the next few weeks bring for our men as we get more speed and race specific, shifting away from the pure grind time of the season, as Ivy Championships grow ever closer," said Socha.
