PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After the opponent won the doubles point, the No. 47 Dartmouth men's tennis team went on to win four of the six singles matches to defeat Brown, 4-3, in a four-and-a-half-battle at the Brown Varsity Tennis Courts on Friday.
The Big Green are on a three-match winning streak and improved to 12-10 and 3-2 in Ivy League play, while the Bears dipped to 15-6 and 1-4 in conference action.
A 6-2 victory at the No. 1 doubles and a 6-3 win at No. 2 gave Brown a 1-0 edge going into singles. Sophomores Diego Pedraza and George Wall were leading Jack Haworth and Peter Tarwid, 5-4, when the match expired.
Senior Chris Kipouras got the Big Green back in the match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Gregory Garcia at No. 2 and freshman Ciro Riccardi gave Dartmouth its first lead of the afternoon by defeating Brandon Yeoh, 7-6, 6-1, at the No. 3 singles.
The match soon went back in the Bears' favor following a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 4 and a 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 victory at No. 1, giving Brown a 3-2 advantage. Wall's 6-4, 7-5 defeat of Ivan Kravtchenko at No. 5 tied the score at three and sophomore Max Schmidt clinched the win at No. 6, falling to Haworth, 6-3, in the first set before coming back and winning the remaining two, 6-3, 7-6.
On Sunday, April 19, Dartmouth will host conference rival Yale at 1 p.m.
