HANOVER, N.H. – The eleventh-ranked Dartmouth women's squash team got back on track with a dramatic, 5-4 victory over Williams on Tuesday night.
The victory improves the Big Green to 4-8, while the Ephs fall to 13-10.
With the overall scored tied 4-4, the match came down to senior Lydie McKenzie, who produced her best performance of the season thus far. McKenzie dominated the first two games, before falling in the third. She took a 10-7 advantage in the fourth game, but could not close it out in regular points. McKenzie eventually defeated her opponent in extra points to earn the victory for Dartmouth
In the first round of matches, junior Madeline Fraser started slow dropping the first game before bouncing back to take the next two. After falling in the fourth, Fraser took the final game in extra points, following a hard fought rally.
Freshman Emma Roberts and sophomore Rebecca Brownell lost close 3-1 matches. Brownell won her first game and competed well in the following two, but her opponent got the better of her in the fourth. Roberts dropped her first game before tying the match 1-1. After falling in the third game, Roberts mounted a strong comeback in the fourth that was just short as the match was decided in extra points.
Freshman Carly Rizzuto and sophomore Zainab Molani each won 3-1 matches in extra points, while senior Tori Dewey lost in straight games. With the overall scored tied 3-3, the final round of matches would decide the contest, setting up the exciting finish.
Sophomore Janel Gaube played well, earning a 3-0 victory for her sixth consecutive win. Junior Jacqueline Barnes lost 3-1 in a hard fought match.
The Big Green return to the court this Friday when they host Yale at 4 p.m. on the Berry Squash Courts.
