HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth sailing team competed in three races over the weekend, taking first in the Joseph R. Duplin Regatta, second in the Admiral Team Race and and fifth in the Jan T. Friis Team Race.
The Big Green traveled to Boston for the Duplin Regatta where Dartmouth went 8-2 in the round robin tournament. Representing the Big Green were: Sarah Williams, Margaret Kilvert, Emma White, Sophie Kerr, Mary Amis and Sophia Diserio. On Saturday Dartmouth sailed in gusts of 4-12 knots, finishing the day 6-1 with victories over Ivy League foes Brown and Yale.
On Sunday, the Big Green defeated their Ancient Eight rivals again to take first place in the regatta. The Bears finished in second, the Bulldogs took third, while the host school Tufts finished third with 6-4 records.
Another group of Dartmouth's sailors went to New York for the Admiral Moore Team Race. After successfully training in Charleston for two weeks, the Big Green competed well and were represented by Hunter Johnstone, Nathaniel Johansson, Maddie Walker, Alyssa Berger, Erik Weis, Lisa Genthner and Duncan Williford.
The first day of the round robin tournament brought winds of 5-10 knots as Dartmouth ended its outing with a 5-4 record. After a brief wind delay on Sunday, the Big Green went 3-2 to finish with a final 11-8 record good for second place behind Hobart and William Smith at 17-2. Eckerd finished in third at 11-8, while Roger Williams finished fourth at 10-9.
Dartmouth also sent a team to New London, Connecticut to compete in the Friis Team Race. The Big Green were represented by Robert Floyd, Charles Lalumiere, Christopher Williford, Madeleine Cooney, Rebecca McElvain, Abigail Rohman, Nathaniel Greason.
Dartmouth went 5-3 on Saturday after sailing in a steady south-southeast breeze. On Sunday the Big Green finished the day with an overall 6-5 record, good for fifth place. Boston College took first place at 10-1, while Yale finished second at 9-2.
Dartmouth returns to the water next weekend for the Dellenbaugh Women's Regatta in Providence and the Marchiando Team Race in Boston.
