PROVIDENCE, R. I. – Dartmouth sailing competed in the Sharpe Team race over the weekend in Providence, Rhode Island, where the Big Green took home second place.
The event was hosted by Brown and consisted of a round robin tournament between 10 schools. Dartmouth was represented by Rebecca McElvain, Hunter Johnstone, Christopher Williford, Nathaniel Johnasson, Amy Amis and Maddie Walker.
Saturday's chilly north breeze of 8-12 knots gave way to calmer conditions throughout the day. The Big Green went 7-2 in the opening round of the regatta with victories over Ivy League foes Harvard, Yale and the host school.
Sunday brought an even calmer breeze which made for some difficult conditions on the water. Dartmouth went undefeated on Sunday until the final race which the Big Green lost to the Bears who went on to win the Sharpe Trophy.
Dartmouth returns to the water on March 26 for the Duplin Women's Team Race in Boston and the Admiral Moore Team Race in New York.
