Men's Tennis
vs Dartmouth Invite #1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – No. 36 Dartmouth men's tennis won its fifth consecutive match on Sunday, defeating Yale by a score of 4-1 at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. The Big Green improved to 16-8 overall and 5-1 in Ivy League play, while the Bulldogs fell to 12-12 and 0-6.
“It was good to come through in a very tough match,” head coach Chris Drake said. “That was a very close doubles point. We won a couple of close first sets at No. 2 and 5 that were important in terms of keeping momentum. We did a good job closing out three singles matches in straight sets. Great job by the team this weekend dealing with the home and away split. They prepared well and it showed.”
At the No. 3 doubles position, senior Dovydas Sakinis and sophomore Max Fliegner had a 6-1 victory over Jason Brown and Alex Hagermoser, but a 7-5 win by the Bulldogs at No. 2 tied things at one match apiece. A close one between the 70th-ranked pairing of senior Brendan Tannenbaum and junior George Wall and Yale's Fedor Andrienko and Stefan Doehler at the No. 1 position ended with a 7-5 victory for the Green, finishing about 20 seconds after Yale's win.
Freshman Eddie Grabill made it 2-0 in favor of Dartmouth with his 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 6 singles position. No. 81 Sakinis had a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Ziqi Wang at No. 1, while the Bulldogs got their lone point of the afternoon at the No. 4 position. Sophomore Ciro Riccardi clinched for the Big Green with his 7-5, 6-4 defeat of Andrienko at No. 2.
On Saturday, April 23, Dartmouth will play its final regular season match of 2016, heading to Boston to face Harvard at 2 p.m.
