Men's Tennis
vs Dartmouth Invite #1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 38 Dartmouth men's tennis wrapped up the 2016 regular season with a 4-1 victory over No. 49 Harvard to finish second in the Ivy League. The Big Green ended the year with a record of 18-8 and 6-1 in conference play, while the Crimson were 16-11 and 4-3 to take fourth.
“I couldn't ask for a more complete effort from the entire team than what we got today at Harvard,” head coach Chris Drake said. “We did a good job executing our game plans in doubles to take an early lead in the match. Taking five of the six first sets against a good team like Harvard is not easy to do, and I'm very proud of the guys for the way they played to get us those sets.
“There were so many Dartmouth alums, former players, family members and supporters that, for most of the match, it felt like we were the home team,” Drake concluded. “This victory was a huge testament to the Dartmouth family, past and present.”
A 6-0 win by senior Dovydas Sakinis and sophomore Max Fliegner at the No. 3 position and a 6-3 victory by junior Max Schmidt and freshman Roko Glasnovic at No. 2 gave the first point to the Green. The 61st-ranked pairing of senior Brendan Tannenbaum and junior George Wall were ahead, 4-2, when the match went unfinished.
Harvard tied things up with a win at No. 5 singles, but three straight victories by No. 85 Sakinis at the No. 1 position, freshman Eddie Grabill at No. 6 and the clinch by Wall at the No. 4 position ended things swiftly.
