HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth sailing team competed in three regattas over the weekend, finishing second in the 81st Boston Dinghy Challenge Cup, fifth in the Admiral's Cup and 11th at the Reed Trophy.
The Big Green traveled to Boston for the Dinghy Challenge Cup which was hosted by MIT. Dartmouth finished with 168 points behind the race winner, Harvard with 152. Ivy League foe Brown took third with 169 points and the host school finished fourth with 170. The Big Green were represented by Charles Lalumiere, Nathaniel Johansson, Madeleine Walker, Lisa Genthner and Alyssa Berger.
Day one of the race brought rain showers in the morning, which gave way to sunnier skies and a strong breeze. In Division A, Dartmouth recorded three top five finishes and seven top five finishes in Division B, including two victories in one of the oldest college sailing events in the nation.
The Big Green also sent a group of sailors to King's Point, New York, where Dartmouth took fifth in the Admiral's Cup with 247 points. St. Mary's College of Maryland took home the trophy with 173 points, followed by Georgetown at 210, Boston College at 211 and Navy with 223.
Representing the Big Green in the Empire State were Hunter Johnstone, Rebecca McElvain, Audrey Bransfield, Christopher Williford, Mary Amis, John Sullivan and Erik Weis. Saturday brought ideal sailing conditions with winds of 8-12 knots, with lighter winds on Sunday. Dartmouth was able to tally three top five finishes in Division A and four top five finishes in Division B.
Dartmouth finished 11th at the Reed Trophy with 280 points which was enough to qualify the Big Green for the Women's Semi Finals in San Diego next month. The Coast Guard Academy took the top spot with 162 points, followed by Boston College at 189, Rhode Island at 203 and Boston University with 215.
Dartmouth was represented by Madeleine Cooney, Sarah Williams, Sophia Diserio, Abigail Rohman, Emily Petno, Hope Wilson, Peggy Kilvert and Emma White. The Big Green combined for 11 top five finishes between the A and B Divisions including one victory and a second place finish in Division A.
Dartmouth returns to the water next week for the NEISA Dinghy Championship which will be hosted by the Big Green.
