ITHACA, N.Y. – After dropping its conference opener the day before, the No. 40 Dartmouth men's tennis team rebounded to defeat No. 56 Cornell, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon. The Big Green are now 13-8 overall and 1-1 in Ivy League play, while the Big Red fell to 8-10 and 1-2.

“We hung around and battled in doubles and played two solid tiebreakers to get that point,” head coach Chris Drake said. “Getting two three-set wins in singles to clinch a very close match was a nice way to finish a long weekend on the road.”

Both teams played hard in doubles, but it was Dartmouth that ultimately came out on top. Cornell won at the No. 1 position, but a 7-6(1) win by senior Dovydas Sakinis and sophomore Max Fliegner at No. 3 and a 7-6(6) victory by junior Max Schmidt and freshman Roko Glasnovic at the No. 2 spot gave the first point to the Green.

Dartmouth made it 2-0 with Fliegner's 6-3, 6-0 win over Chris Vrabel at the No. 4 position, but two in a row for Cornell at No. 2 and 1 tied the score at two-all. Those were the only points the Big Green would allow, however, and three-set wins by Schmidt at No. 5 and Glasnovic at the No. 6 position clinched the win for the visitors. At the No. 3 position, junior George Wall was leading, 2-1, in his third set against Stefan Vinti, but the match was suspended.

The Big Green will host their final home matches of the regular season in the next two weeks. Next weekend, Princeton and Penn will come to town and, on Friday, April 15, Dartmouth will host Brown.
