SAN DIEGO, Calif. – After the second day of action at the Inter Collegiate Sailing Association Laser Performance Team Race National Championship, the Dartmouth sailing team is in eighth place.
The Big Green went 9-8 in the second round of the regatta, improving three spots after finishing 11th on Saturday. Once again, Dartmouth was represented by Robert Floyd, Charles Lalumiere, Christopher Williford, Madeline Cooney, Rebecca McElvain and Abigail Rohman, as racing began at 10:30 a.m. at the San Diego Yacht Club. The Big Green's afternoon was highlighted by wins over seventh place Old Dominion and 10th place Navy.
The Team Race National Championship brings together 16 teams for a three-day regatta. Each team has three boats and teams face off against one another at a time, so each race is either a win or loss. After the round robin style tournament, the top eight teams will split off for another round robin to determine the final four, who will then compete for the Walter C. Wood Trophy and the National Championship.
Ivy League foe Yale leads the field after going 16-1 on Sunday, followed by Boston College at 14-4, St. Mary's College at 14-4 and Georgetown at 13-4. These four teams will square off tomorrow to determine who will claim the National Championship.
The Big Green will look to improve their finish tomorrow when the Team Race National Championship concludes. Racing in the Golden State will begin at 10:30 a.m.
