CALGARY, Alberta – It was announced on Tuesday that Dartmouth women's hockey head coach Laura Schuler will once again serve as the head coach of the Canadian National Women's Team in 2016-17 season.
Joining Schuler behind the bench are assistant coaches Dwayne Gylywoychuk and Troy Ryan and goaltending coach Brad Kirkwood.
Schuler also served in the same capacity during the 2015-16 season. Additionally, she was the head coach of Canada's National Women's Under-18 Team that won gold at the 2014 IIHF Women's World Championship and claimed gold at the same event in 2013 as an assistant coach. As a player, Schuler won three gold medals with Canada's National Women's Team at the IIHF Women's World Championship (1990, 1992, 1997), and silver at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games.
Canada takes to the ice at its Fall Festival in Calgary, Sept. 11-18, 2016. The event serves as an important evaluation opportunity prior to selecting the teams that will represent Canada at the 2016 Four Nations Cup in Vierumäki, Finland, Nov. 1-5 and the 2017 IIHF Women's World Championship in Plymouth, Michigan, March 31 through April 7, 2017.
Schuler was named Dartmouth's ninth all-time head coach in April of 2016 and will begin her first season at the helm of the Big Green team in an exhibition game against McGill on Sunday, Oct. 16, at Thompson Arena.
