HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth sailing competed in three regattas over the weekend as a group of sailors traveled to New Haven and New London, Connecticut as well as Annapolis, Maryland.
In the 74th Pine Trophy the Big Green finished fourth with 68 points, where Dartmouth was represented by Erik Weis, Duncan Williford, Charlie Lalumiere and Nate Greason. The Green came into the race as the two-time defending champion and were looking to prove themselves on the Thames River in New London. Yale won the event with 45 points, followed by Harvard with 51 and Roger Williams with 58.
Dartmouth recorded 10 top-five finishes which helped the Big Green quality for the New England Match Race Championship later this fall.
In the Harry Anderson Jr. Trophy, hosted by Yale, Dartmouth took seventh place with 243 points in the 17 school field. The Big Green were represented by Christopher Williford, Mary Amis, Lisa Genthner, Sophie Kerr, Madeleine Cooney and Patrick Floyd.
Saturday brought warm sunshine and windy conditions on Long Island Sound, which gave way to shifty winds on Sunday. In Division B Dartmouth took home two Top 5 finishes, including one victory and three top-five finishes in Division A.
The Big Green also sent a group of sailors to the U.S. Women's Match Racing Championship at the Annapolis Yacht Club. Rebecca McElvain, Emma White and Sophia Diserio competed well in the round robin tournament where McElvain skippered Dartmouth to a fifth place finish. Her best races of the contest came in Stage 1 when McElvain's boat won two races.
The Big Green return to the water next weekend for regattas in Boston, Massachusetts, New London, Connecticut and Burlington, Vermont.
