THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth field hockey team plays two games this weekend with a home tilt Friday against Vermont kicking things off before heading to New Haven for a road game against Sacred Heart on Sunday.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green split its home-opening stand against Bryant and Pacific last weekend. Dartmouth needed 100 minutes, two overtimes and a shootout to take down Bryant, 2-1, while Pacific won its second of three games at Chase Field with a 6-1 victory on Sunday afternoon.
SCOUTING VERMONT
The Catamounts were the third of Pacific's wins in Hanover, falling to the Tigers at Chase Field, 8-2, Tuesday morning. Vermont is now 4-2 this season with all four wins coming at Moulton Winder Field in Burlington and both losses coming on the road. Landon Warren leads the team in both points (8) and goals (4), while Rachel Phillips and Lauren Tucker both have a pair of assists to lead the way. Goalkeeper Lena Benwood has played all 428 minutes of action to this point.
SCOUTING SACRED HEART
The Pioneers are having a rough year so far. Displaced from their home turf while its being renovated, Sacred Heart has yet to win a game in six contests coming into the weekend with a road game at Brown scheduled for Friday. The team has managed just four goals in those six games with four different players registering those tallies. Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Degennaro has played the majority of the time and boasts a .250 save percentage.
IT'S BEEN HOW LONG?
The Bryant game was the first Dartmouth shootout in nearly nine years. The last time the Big Green went beyond the second overtime and played into a shootout was Oct. 10, 2007 at home vs. New Hampshire. Senior captain Whitney Waugh '08 scored the game winner on Dartmouth's second stroke of the shootout, while senior goaltender Ashley Heist '08 made the final three stops to propel the Big Green over New Hampshire, 3-2.
TWO IN MORE THAN ONE
With her redirected goal in the waning moments of the Bryant game, freshman Carmen Braceras became the first player this season to score goals in multiple games. Joanne Nazareth has a pair of goals with both coming in the Maine game, while Braceras scored at Albany and again in the home opener.
OH CAPTAIN
Dartmouth's lone goal in the game against the Tigers came from captain and junior defender Morgan Philie in the 53rd minute. Philie returned to the lineup after missing the Bryant game with an injury. For the West Friendship, Maryland, native, the goal was just the second of her career.
