HANOVER, N.H. – The Big Green men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host the annual Dartmouth Invitational this Friday and Saturday, welcoming UMass to town.
Since its start during the 2010-11 season, the two-day, three-session meet had always been held at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vermont, with diving taking place at Karl Michael Pool. This year, however, is different, and both the swimming and the diving portions will be held at Dartmouth's home pool.
Diving will kick things off at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, while swimming will follow at 6 p.m. The morning session on Saturday will commence at 10 a.m. and diving will be completed afterwards, while the final session will begin at 4 p.m.
Last year, the Big Green men won nine events, broke six records and finished in second place with 1,063 points, less than 100 behind Boston College. James Verhagen broke pool and meet records in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, while the 200-yard medley relay also took down the pool record. David Harmon won both the 100- and 200-yard fly.
Dartmouth's women were in first after day one and held on to the lead, finishing with 1,141 points to Northeastern's 1,030. The Green broke four records along the way, highlighted by Kendese Nangle's first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle that broke the meet record by just four one-hundredths of a second. Molly Brickman and Melanya Zaraska also performed well, finishing first in their respective events.
Just two home dual meets remain on the schedule for the 2016-17 season against Connecticut (Jan. 28) and Columbia (Feb. 3-4). The women will head to Providence, Rhode Island, for the Ivy League Championship from Feb. 15-18, while the men's team will go to Cambridge a week later.
