Men's Tennis
vs Dartmouth Invite #1
1/21/2017 9:43:00 PM | Men's Tennis
HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's tennis team concluded its first weekend of home action of the year, falling to Indiana, 6-1, at the Boss Tennis Center on Saturday evening. The Big Green are now 1-1 in 2017, while the Hoosiers improved to 2-0 following a win over Bryant earlier that day.
“Hats off to Indiana,” head coach Chris Drake said. “Their level was a little better than ours was tonight. We had a few chances to secure the doubles point and also to win a few more first sets in singles. When you let chances slip away against a good team, they usually make you pay for it.”
A 6-1 win by Indiana at the No. 3 doubles and a 6-2 victory by junior Max Fliegner and senior George Wall at the No. 2 spot left the two teams fighting to win at the No. 1 position. It was a very close, hard-fought match, but Raheel Manji and Keivon Tabrizi ultimately walked away with a 7-6(4) victory over sophomore Roko Glasnovic and senior Diego Pedraza, taking the 1-0 lead into singles.
The Hoosiers got their second point at the No. 1 position, but freshman Charlie Broom followed that up by claiming Dartmouth's point with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 defeat of Oliver Sec at No. 4. The Big Green played hard in the remaining matches, but Indiana would win all four to end the match. All but two of the singles matches went to three sets, showing how close they were.
Next weekend, Jan. 27-28, Dartmouth will be back at the Boss Tennis Center to host Binghamton and South Carolina. Both matches will be on the Ivy League Digital Network (ILDN).
