ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore Alex Jasiek scored a pair of power-play goals just 62 seconds apart in the third period to help the Dartmouth men's hockey team to a stunning 4-2 comeback victory at Lynah Rink Saturday night against No. 14 Cornell.
Down 2-0, the Big Green scored four unanswered goals to pick up the ECAC Hockey and Ivy League win.
Jasiek picked the perfect time to notch his first two-goal game in addition to setting a new career high with three points after also getting an assist on Cameron Roth's second-period score.
Dartmouth (8-11-3, 5-8-2) pushed its unbeaten streak to five games in Ithaca with the win, winning four and tying once since its last lost at Cornell's home rink in Game 2 of a 2012 first-round playoff series with the Big Red (12-6-2, 7-4-2).
The visitors trailed by two thanks to a pair of first-period goals from Matt Nuttle and Matt Buckles. Roth finally broke through on a bouncing puck from a point shot with 34 seconds left in the second period, sending the Green and White to the dressing room for the final time down 2-1.
Dartmouth had been 0-10-0 this season when trailing after 40 minutes, but that changed thanks to the two power-play tallies from Jasiek and an empty netter in from Troy Crema. Connor Yau and Crema also both had the assists on each of the Jasiek goals, giving the latter a three-point third period.
Devin Buffalo shook off the opening-period scores from the home team by finishing the night with an impressive 34 saves, including 14 in the final frame. His play in the crease gave the Big Green the opportunity to mount their comeback. Mitch Gillam made 26 saves in the losing effort as the Big Red held a 36-30 edge in shots.
Roth's goal at the end of the second was also a power-play tally, helping the visitors to a 3-for-6 night on the man-advantage. Cornell was 1-for-3.
Freshman Ryan Blankemeier also had a nice night, assisting on the Roth score as well as the Crema empty-net goal, recording multiple points for the second time in the last two weeks.
Dartmouth is on the road for just one game next week, taking on Harvard Friday night in Cambridge at 7:30 p.m.
