Dartmouth Moves up to Sixth on Day Two of Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. – Day two of the Big Al Invitational was highlighted by Cathleen Li's first-place finish in the 100-yard fly, breaking the program record twice over the course of the day. Dartmouth women's swimming and diving moved up a spot to sixth with 235 points.

Seeded first in the 100 fly heading into finals following a strong swim in the morning (54.30), Li held on to win with a time of 54.11, breaking the Dartmouth record of 54.66 from 2011 and then breaking her own record at night.

Dartmouth's 200-yard medley A relay took eighth (1:44.41) to earn 22 points toward the team's total. Made up of Caroline Poleway, Mackenzie Stumpf, Cathleen Li and Allie Hunter, the Big Green out-touched Princeton by less than two-tenths.

Melanya Zazraska dropped three seconds off her swim from prelims in the 400-yard IM, moving up two spots to finish 17th with a time of 4:27.83. In the 200-yard freestyle, Summer Martin was seventh (1:51.00), while Laura Barthold took 19th (1:51.97).

Competing in the A final of the 100-yard breaststroke, Stumpf placed sixth (1:03.84), missing out on the Dartmouth record by less than three-tenths of a second. Kenna Van Steyn also swam the event and was 20th (1:05.48).

A pair of Big Green swimmers competed in the 100-yard backstroke, both improving on their times from the morning. Poleway was 12th (57.10) and Newkirk took 18th (57.95).

In prelims on the 1-meter diving board, Maggie Pionzio and Allison Green took 11th and 12th with scores of 210.90 and 207.50, respectively. Sloane Papa followed in 22nd (191.05). On 3-meter, Green made it back to finals in eighth place, finishing that night with a score of 212.20. Pionzio took 13th (219.70).

To end day two, Dartmouth was seventh in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:32.07). Composed of Zaraska, Hunter, Martin and Barthold, the Big Green left almost a full second between them and Johns Hopkins in eighth.
