Women's Squash Defeats Middlebury on the Road

HANOVER, N.H. – The ninth-ranked Dartmouth women's squash team fell to No. 8 Cornell, 7-2 at the Berry Squash Courts on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Big Green fall to 3-4 overall, while the Big Red improve to 8-3.

In the first round of matches, Junior Janel Gaube played assertively to win in straight games, which got Dartmouth off to a positive start. Freshman Annie Blasberg and sophomore Emma Roberts both lost in three games to finish the round.

Junior Zainab Molani played great squash, defeating her opponents in a quick three-game match, marking the team's second win of the day. Freshman Junnat Anwar started off slowly in her match, where she dropped the first game in extra points. She showed determination with a victory in a closely fought second game, before falling in the third and fourth frame. Meanwhile, freshman Julia Potter lost 3-0, but played a strong first two games before losing her rhythm and the match.

In the final round, junior Becky Brownell lost the first two games of her match before climbing back with a win in the third. Brownell fought hard, but eventually fell in four. Seniors Jacqueline Barnes and Maddie Fraser competed well but couldn't take a game from their Cornell opponents. Barnes competed closely in each rally and game, but didn't quite have enough to take a game against her relentless opponent.

The Big Green will return to the court tomorrow when Dartmouth hosts Columbia at 11 a.m.
