vs Dartmouth Invite #1

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Dartmouth men's tennis defeated No. 46 South Alabama, 4-2, at the Lubel Memorial Courts. The Big Green defeated their first ranked opponent and improved to 7-10, while the Jaguars are now 17-5.
“This is a victory the guys can be very proud of today,” head coach Chris Drake said. “It took a great physical and mental effort to beat a team as good as South Alabama in windy outdoor conditions and in our fifth match in eight days. Winning another close doubles point certainly helped. This was a great way to conclude our Spring Break trip, and I'm excited about the momentum we can carry into Ivy League play.”
South Alabama were victorious at the No. 1 doubles to start the afternoon, but the Big Green won the other two matches to take the first point. At the No. 2 position, senior George Wall and freshman David Horneffer defeated Clement Marzol and Olivier Gingras, 7-5, while at the No. 3 spot, junior Max Fliegner and freshman Charlie Broom took down Tuki Jacobs and Pierre Noyon by the same score.
Sophomore Eddie Grabill won his match against Lucas Gonzalez, 6-1, 6-4, to put another point on the board for Dartmouth, but Jaguar wins at the No. 4 and 3 positions tied the score at 2-2. Those were the only points the Big Green allowed out of their opponent. Broom had a 7-6, 6-3 win over Juan Cruz Soria to give Dartmouth a one-point lead, and it was Wall that clinched the victory with his 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over Noyon.
Now that its Spring Break trip is done, Dartmouth will return to Hanover to open Ivy play against Harvard on Saturday, April 1.
