HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth field hockey team dropped a non-conference match-up Sunday afternoon against visiting Northeastern, 5-1, at Chase Field.
Â
The Huskies (6-8) came out strong, scoring three first-half goals before adding a pair in the second to pick up the victory. The Big Green (4-8) got a second-half goal from sophomore
Kira Koehler and double-digit saves from senior
Hailey Valerio, but it wasn't enough to overcome the visitors' potent offensive attack.
Â
Rachel Campbell, Camille O'Connor and Kellie Stigas all scored in the opening 35 minutes of play to make it 3-0 at the half. Another goal in the 52nd minute from O'Connor pushed the lead to four, only to be answered a minute and 37 seconds later from Koehler.
Â
For the second-year Dartmouth forward, the tally was her fourth of the season, while
Lia Constantine's assist on the play was her fourth of 2018 as well.
Â
The Huskies added another in the 67th minute from June Lindahl-Curry to cap the scoring and push their win streak to 11 games against the Big Green dating back to 1988.
Â
All 10 of Valerio's saves came in the second half as she picked up her third double-digit save performance of the season and her second of the week after stopping 16 at No. 17 Maine on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
Julia Gluyas turned aside three in the winning effort for the team from Hunting Avenue.
Â
The Green and White are back in action next weekend with a pair of road games looking to snap the current four-game slide. Dartmouth goes to Columbia for a Friday afternoon (2 p.m.) Ivy League game before taking on UMass Lowell on Sunday (1:30 p.m.) in another matinee.
