SEEKONK, Mass. — Four of the Dartmouth women's golfers competing at the Brown Bear Invitational finished the first round at 5-over par to leave the Big Green in eighth place with a 308 (+20) at the par-72, 6,123-yard Ledgemont Country Club on Sunday. Fairleigh Dickinson will take a three-stroke lead over the host Bears into the second and final round tomorrow with Dartmouth 11 strokes off the pace.
While the four Dartmouth entrants had the same final score, three of them arrived at their total in identical fashion — with 10 pars, two birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey. And both senior
Catharine Roddy and sophomore
Moon Cheong had four bogeys and a birdie on the front nine, then completed the back nine with a birdie, bogey and double bogey.
It was freshman
Kaitlyn Lees who had the most consistent round, however, arriving at the turn at just 1-over par with eight pars. But a pair of double bogeys on the back nine dropped to her 5-over on the day as well, tied with her teammates in 21st place.
Like Lees, junior
Kristen Soh played the first nine holes just one stroke over par, taking bogeys on the third and fourth holes before rebounding with a birdie on five. But three bogeys and a double bogey dropped to 6-over, until she rallied on 18 with a birdie.
Pinya Pipatjarasgit of the host Bears was one of just two players in the 70-member field to break par on the day, finishing the round atop the leaderboard with a 2-under 70 thanks to a trio of birdies. That third birdie on the final hole pushed her ahead of Albany's Megan Henry, who made par on 15 holes and birdied two to card a 71 (-1). Five other golfers wrapped up the day at even par.
The final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. with Lees among the first group off the tee.
