SEEKONK, Mass. — Senior
Catharine Roddy shot even par for the second and final round of the Brown Bear Fall Invitational, leading the Dartmouth women's golf team to the second-lowest score of the day (301, +13) as the Big Green rose four places in the standings to finish the tournament in fourth.
Princeton took home the team title, leapfrogging two teams with a 2-under 286 on Monday to pull away from Quinnipiac and first-round leader Fairleigh Dickinson by 15 and 19 strokes, respectively with a 303-286—589 (+13).
Dartmouth had four golfers tied at 5-over par entering the day, and that clustering continued as four Big Green players reached the turn at even par with a single birdie and a bogey apiece. Roddy managed to maintain that pace on the back nine, despite suffering a double bogey on the 11th hole. She recovered quickly, however, with birdies on 12, 14 and 16, before bogeying the final hole to settle for a 72 (E) on the day and leave her with a 5-over 149 overall, tied for 10th.
Freshman
Kaitlyn Lees had the most pars for Dartmouth in the round with 12, and finished up with her second birdie of the day to tie for 18th at 77-75—152 (+8). Both sophomore
Moon Cheong and
Kristen Chen dropped birdies on 17 as they carded a 76 (+4) and 78 (+6), respectively. Cheong tied for 21st overall with a 9-over 153 while Chen matched junior teammate Kristin Soh in 41st place with a 15-over 159.
St. John's Linda Wang held off a furious charge by Princeton's Emma Zhao to win medalist honors by two strokes, carding a 73-69—142 (-2) with birdies on 14 and 16. Zhao, meanwhile, sank birdies on six of the final nine holes, but was derailed by a double bogey in the midst of her charge on 16, settling for a tie for second at even par with her teammate, Maya Walton.
The women have one more tournament on their schedule before the conclusion of the fall season, the Alexa Stirling Invitational hosted by the University of Louisville at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia, on Oct. 26-28.
