CAMDEN, S.C. — Sophomore
Jason Liu provided the best round for the Dartmouth men's golf team at the Camden Collegiate Invitational today, carding a 1-over 71 to boost the Big Green in the final standings into a tie for seventh place with a three-round total of 887 (+47). USC Upstate vaulted two teams, including host Furman, to take home the team title, shooting 282-288-289—859 (+19) on the par-70, 6,455-yard course at the Camden Country Club in Camden, South Carolina.
All five of Dartmouth's golfers started the round on the back nine, with Liu entering the day tied for 32nd place. The team captain was bested by just one of the 54 golfers in the third round as he rose 19 places in the standings into a tie for 13th. He started on the back nine and began a bit slow with back-to-back bogeys, but followed those up with consecutive birdies. After reaching the turn at 1-over, he added two more birdies on the fourth and fifth holes as he maintained his 1-over total. Liu improved two strokes from round to round, shooting 75-73-71—219 (+9).
Dartmouth's day one leader, senior
John Lazor, remained among the top 20 with his 73-72-76—221 (+11, tied for 19th) sinking a dozen pars and six bogeys over Sunday's round. Junior
Will Bednarz also shot a 76 (+6) in the final round, but dropped a pair of birdies over the 18 holes to wrap up the tournament in a tie for 39th at 18-over par. Sophomore
Sam Ohno provided beat out both Lazor and Bednarz on this day with a 4-over 74. He began the round a little wobbly with one birdie and five bogeys over the first nine, but he found consistency on his final nine with pars on each hole.
Freshman
Mark Turner (+19, tied for 43rd) also competed for the Big Green, while his classmate,
Charles Petrie, played as an individual, finishing one stroke behind Turner in a tie for 46th.
Furman's Jack Crosby, playing in his first collegiate tournament, won medalist honors with a 69-69-72—210 (E), edging out USC Upstate's Jordan Warnock by a single stroke. He began the day two strokes behind the leader, Top Kamnark of USC Aiken, and after bogeying the first two holes, got back on track and had two birdies and made par on 13 holes to pull out the victory.
With the conclusion of the Camden Collegiate Invitational, Dartmouth wrapped up its fall schedule. The Big Green will be back in action in the spring to make a run at the Ivy League title.
