The Big Green came out victorious in two Ivy-opening games this past weekend. Sophomore Derek Kyler led the football team to a 37-14 win over the visiting Quakers of Penn with 18-of-21 passes. Freshman Cecelia Monnin scored her first collegiate goal as the field hockey team opened the Ivy season with a win over Brown.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the DartmouthSports.com Athletes of the Week.

Derek Kyler, So., Dekalb, Ill., QB, Football
Derek Kyler had one of the most efficient passing games in Dartmouth history, completing 18-of-21 passes for 221 yards and three touchdowns in a 37-14 victory over Penn in the Ivy League opener for both teams. The Big Green had a 13-7 lead at the half, but Kyler broke the game open with all three of his scoring throws coming in the third quarter to open up a 34-7 advantage. His first TD toss was a 59-yard bomb on the fourth play of the second half, the second a 19-yarder and the third a 4-yarder to lineman Jake Guidone for the first touchdown of his life. Kyler was named the Ivy League Co-Offensive Player of the Week and received honorable mention from STATS for the FCS National Offensive Player of the Week.
Cecelia Monnin, Fr., Charlotte, N.C., M/D, Field Hockey
The Dartmouth field hockey freshman scored the first goal of her collegiate career at the perfect time. Monnin batted a ball out of the air and into the goal for the Big Green's third score of the game on a set corner play. The rookie actually started the play with the pushout on the corner play, but put herself in position to knock the loose ball out of the air just seconds later.The goal proved to be the game winner as Dartmouth defeated Brown, 4-2, to earn its first Ivy League victory of the season.
