THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth women's rugby will play its penultimate regular season match (and its last of three consecutive home games) on Saturday, hosting American International College (AIC). This will be just the second time the teams have met during the regular season and the fourth time overall.
LAST TIME OUT
In a battle between the top two Ivy Rugby and National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) teams, it was Dartmouth that came out on top, besting Harvard by a score of 55-13 at Brophy Field on the team's 40th reunion weekend Sept. 22.
Eight different players scored tries, though the win was a team effort.
Emily Henrich led with one try and three conversions for 11 points, while
Becca Jane Rosko was right behind with 10 points from a pair of tries.
Both teams looked strong to start the first half, but neither controlled the ball long enough to get on the board. Following almost 12 minutes of back-and-forth action, Dartmouth broke through with a try by
Alex Stendahl, her second of the season, to take a 5-0 lead.
Over the next 17 minutes, four different Big Green players scored tries to pull Dartmouth further ahead:
Ale Ada (with her first collegiate try),
Sophie Ragg,
Milla Anderson and Rosko. With three conversions by Henrich, Dartmouth had a comfortable 31-0 advantage with less than 10 minutes remaining in the half. A good Harvard penalty kick a few minutes later made it a 31-3 match heading into the break.
The Crimson returned for the second half wanting more, scoring their first try three minutes in, but tries by
Allison Tong,
Sophia Haley, a second for Rosko and a good conversion by
Kat Ramage over the next eight minutes increased Dartmouth's lead (48-8).
After 16 minutes of scoreless play, Henrich had her first of the match and, following another good kick by Ramage, the Green had a comfortable 55-8 lead with time winding down. Harvard scored once more right at the end to officially wrap up the game.
NIRA RANKINGS
There was no movement among the Top 10 NIRA teams: Dartmouth, Harvard, Quinnipiac, Army and Norwich are still rounding out the top five. The Big Green are now the only undefeated team out of all 17 ranked teams on the list.
NATIONAL TEAM
It was announced this weekend that Henrich,
Frankie Sands '18 and assistant coach
Stacey Bridges were three of 34 players named to the Women's National Team roster for the upcoming November Internationals 2018.
Under the direction of new head coach Rob Cain, the Women's Eagles will open their November schedule against New Zealand on Nov. 3 in Chicago. Following that clash, the United States will travel to Europe for a test match with England on Nov. 8 before closing out their schedule against Ireland on Nov. 18.
SCOUTING AIC
The Yellow Jackets enter the weekend with a record of 1-1 after taking down Colby-Sawyer by an impressive score of 129-0 before narrowly falling to Norwich, 28-22.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE YELLOW JACKETS
Dartmouth and AIC last met on Nov. 11, 2017, in the NIRA Quarterfinal at Brophy Field. The Big Green won by a score of 80-12 and advanced to the national semifinal for the first time in program history.
Lilly Durbin led the way with her five tries, but a lot of players had a hand in the victory.
Frankie Sands and Rosko both had two tries and Ramage had eight points from four conversions.
Marin Pennell, Berit DeGrandpre,
Danielle Ramsay, Anderson and
Rachel Hand all ended the match with one try apiece, while Stendahl recorded one conversion.
NEXT UP FOR DARTMOUTH
On Oct. 13, the Big Green will hit the road for the first time in over a month to close the regular season against Army West Point.
