HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's rugby team got the 2026 season off to a strong start at Brophy Field on Saturday, Sept. 5, against Army as the Big Green got past the Black Knights, 41-8.
The Big Green won its sixth consecutive match against the Black Knights and improved its record against Army to 9-3.
Lauren Cheng and Marley Larkin each scored two tries, while Katija Crawford, Jordynn LeBeau, and Vasiti Turagavou each scored once for Dartmouth.
The first half saw the Big Green get on the scoreboard early, with Crawford crossing the try line just 1:04 into the match and Annie Henrich completing the conversion to make it 7-0. Larkin scored her first try of the match shortly after, with 9:50 on the clock, and gave the Big Green a 12-0 advantage.
The Black Knights put points on the scoreboard late in the first half with a penalty kick at 22:50, but Dartmouth took a 12-3 lead into halftime.
It didn't take long for Dartmouth's attacking prowess to be on display in the second half. With 55:45 on the clock, LeBeau scored to give the Big Green a 17-3 advantage. After a successful Dartmouth lineout, the Big Green used a textbook maul to power LeBeau over the try line.
Cheng's first try came with shortly after, in the 64th minute. She showed her pace and bolted 60 meters down the left side of the field to score between the goalposts. Hehea Pulotu was successful on the conversion attempt, and Dartmouth went up 24-3.
Dartmouth quickly followed up with another try. A Black Knight turnover saw Turagavou scoop the ball up then dart 50 meters through the middle of the field to score in the 67th minute. Cheng scored an almost identical try with 69:00 on the clock; using blazing speed, she went 50 meters down the field to score her second try, putting Dartmouth up 36-3.
In the 73rd minute, the Black Knights scored their first try of the match to make it a 36-8 contest.
Just three minutes later, the Big Green responded with try number two for Larkin. The ball quickly moved through several pairs of hands and ended up with Larkin, who was flying down the right wing, then found the try zone. Her try made it a 41-8 final score as the Big Green earned the season-opening triumph.
