Women’s Rugby Battles Harvard in Rain at Mignone Field

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Dartmouth women's rugby team went on the road on Friday, Sept. 25, to face one of the nation's hottest teams and stayed with Harvard for much of the first half in a steady rain before falling, 31-7, at Mignone Field.

The match was originally scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, but was moved forward due to anticipated inclement weather.

Harvard had won 15 straight matches dating to 2024 and had not lost at home in nearly two years. Still, Dartmouth's defense set the tone early, turning away the Crimson attack again and again and keeping the match scoreless for more than 20 minutes.

Harvard eventually broke through and scored three tries making 17-0 at 36:00. With time expired in the first half, a series of successful attacking play by the Big Green resulted in Vanessa Ortiz-Pallen powering her way over the try line to Dartmouth's first points on the board name it 17-7 at halftime.

The Crimson scored first after halftime, but Dartmouth kept coming. The Big Green attacked throughout the second half, testing a Harvard defense that had not given up a point in its previous match. A Harvard try with about eight minutes left accounted for the final margin of 31-7.
