NEW HAVEN, Vt. – The Dartmouth Equestrian team had a very successful first show of the season at Middlebury on Saturday, beating out nine teams to win the competition.
The team's home meet in late September didn't count toward official point totals, making Saturday's performance at Middlebury the first official show of the season.
Â
Captain
Olivia Champ and junior
Meghan Poth got the day off to a good start, placing third in Open Fences and second in Intermediate Fences, respectively. Senior
Suehayla Mohieldin also claimed second place in her cross rails class.
Â
Freshmen
Tori Bergstein and
Georgina Davis had a great first show, taking second and third, respectively, in Novice Fences, leading the team to first place before starting the flat portion of the competition.
Â
The team continued to hold back competition in the flat, with
Meghan Poth and
Sabrina Jain both claiming second in Intermediate Flat and Novice Flat.
Â
The story of the day, though, was when sophomore
Sophia Kocher made Dartmouth equestrian history. Kocher won her Advanced Walk Trot canter class, making her the first rider at Dartmouth to win at every single regular season competition. Her win also qualified her for Regionals and moved her up to Novice Flat and Fences.
Â
Dartmouth continued to perform well in the Walk Trot Canter division with junior
Alexa Tucker winning her class and
Sophie Kylander claiming third. Senior
Margot Putnam clinched the necessary points to keep Dartmouth in the lead, claiming fourth place in Walk Trot out of eight riders. The team will continue to train hard over the next week in preparation for the doubleheader shows at UVM and back at Morton Farm next weekend.
