NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Dartmouth men's tennis team wrapped up both the Gopher Invitational and the Connecticut State Championship on Sunday, playing well in both locations.

The Big Green fared well at Yale; freshman Pierce Widdecombe won his flight in singles, while classmates Sid Chari and Sacha Pritzker won their consolation doubles flight.

Widdecombe dropped his first set against both of his opponents, rebounding to defeat players from both UConn and St. John's. Sophomore Gilbert Jaeger defeated Tyler Shibles of Fairfield, 6-3, 6-3, before falling to a player from St. John's.

In doubles, Chari and Pritzker were an unstoppable duo, defeating pairs from St. John's, Quinnipiac and Yale to win their flight. Jaeger and Widdecombe also teamed up to win their match against a doubles team from Fairfield by a score of 8-5.

At Minnesota, Dartmouth won five of its seven matches. Junior David Horneffer and sophomore Peter Conklin had a 6-2 win over a pair from Utah, while sophomore John Speicher and senior Roko Glasnovic had a very close match, but narrowly fell to a doubles team from Wisconsin.

The Big Green were victorious in all of their singles matches. Horneffer and Conklin both had wins over players from Utah, with Horneffer taking down Randy Cory, 6-3, 6-4 and Conklin winning against Russell Cory, 6-3, 6-4. Sophomore Casey Ross had a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Minnesota's Sebastian Vile, while Speicher had a 3-6, 6-3, 10-3 defeat of Wisconsin's Daniel Nuzhny.

Now that they are done with fall play, the Big Green will not return to the court until January.
