AMHERST, N.Y. – The Dartmouth men's cross country team claimed fourth Friday morning at the NCAA Northeast Regional meet.
Â
The Big Green posted 144 team points, finishing behind Syracuse (79), Iona (88) and Army West Point (135). The top-two teams automatically qualify for the NCAA Championship Meet next weekend in Wisconsin, while others, like Dartmouth, wait to find out if they will earn an at-large berth.
Â
Quinn Cooney posted a 10th-place finish in 33:09.5 on the 10K Audubon Golf Course in suburban Buffalo to lead the way. The race was run through cold, snowy, wet conditions, creating hazards for many teams on the already longer-than-normal course.
Â
After Cooney, the Big Green picked up points from
Marco Pompilj (18th, 33:32.3),
Henry Raymond (29th, 33:42.6),
Owen Ritz (42nd, 34:00.1) and
Patrick O'Brien (34:03.6).
Â
Dartmouth was also the top Ivy League team on this day as Brown took fifth (172), Columbia was eighth (272), Harvard claimed 11th (299), Cornell took 16th (376) with Yale one back in 17th (439).
Â
The Green and White will now wait to see if they earn one of the at-large bids to run the 10K course in Madison next Saturday afternoon. Check back with DartmouthSports.com this week for information regarding a possible trip to the Badger State.
