HANOVER, N.H. — During its trip to Northern Ireland last week for the Belfast Classic, the Dartmouth men's basketball team not only played games in the tournament, but also held a youth skills clinic for middle school students at St. Malachy's College.
The Big Green players spent an hour on the court working with the 14 students on various skills before engaging them in a question-and-answer session. The clinic was set up by
Sport Changes Lives, which works in communities to help young people find a path to a brighter future with the help of international sports scholars.
"The youth skills clinic was a great way for our team to give back during our stay in Ireland and Northern Ireland, and rewarding for us in the same instance as those students ended up attending our game against Albany to cheer us on," Dartmouth head coach
David McLaughlin said.
"Our trip proved to be an invaluable experience for the entire program, one which united our players, coaches, family and alumi over a five-day period," he continued. "The opportunity to experience something like this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our student-athletes and we hope it will continue to make us a stronger group as we move forward in our season."
Dartmouth split its two games at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland, falling to Marist on Nov. 29, 76-58, before dropping 17 3-pointers on Albany in a 91-77 victory the following day. Sophomore forward
Chris Knight was named to the Samson Division All-Tournament Team for averaging 18 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 60.9 percent from the floor over the two games.
The Big Green (4-4) begin a four-game home stand on Dec. 5 when they host Quinnipiac (2-4) at 7 p.m. Fans that can't make it to Leede Arena can either watch the game live on ESPN+ with Eric Berry and former Dartmouth head coach Dave Faucher calling the game, or tune into KOOL FM (106.7 FM in Hanover, 96.3 FM in Walpole and 106.5 FM in Keene) or koolnh.com to listen to Brett Franklin and Bill Murphy describing the action.
