HANOVER, N.H. —
Rich Parker, the Bill Johnson Head Coach of Dartmouth Men's Golf, announced that he has two recruits in the Class of 2022 —
Charles Petrie and
Mark Turner.
A native of Stamford, England, Petrie attended Uppingham School in the United Kingdom where he was a three-sport athlete, competing for four years on the golf team. As a senior, he captained the squad and led them to the Independent Schools Golf Association national finals. He also was a finalist for the Daily Telegraph Championship, finished sixth in the Faldo Series England Championship and placed in the top 10 at both the IMG Florida Challenge and the Midland Youths Championship. Petrie's family is no stranger to Dartmouth College as his father, Bruce Petrie, was a member of the Class of 1966, captained the freshman soccer team and was a three-year letterman on the varsity, while his grandfather, James Petrie, was a member of the Class of 1933.
"I met Charles at a camp two summers ago and was immediately impressed with his golf and passion for the game," Parker said. "He is the third legacy player in my 14 years at Dartmouth, but more importantly, he will be a big part of our success in the coming years."
Turner will be joining his older brother, sophomore
James Turner, on the golf team. Hailing from Gloucester, Massachusetts, Turner attended St. John's Prep where he helped the team win a pair of D1A state championships. He was named the Massachusetts Junior Player of the Year in his senior year after earning the Future Collegians World Tour Player of the Year as a junior. Last week, Turner competed at the U.S. Amateur Championship at Pebble Beach — where his brother caddied for him — after qualifying at sectionals in July with a two-round score of 139 (-1) at Essex Country Club, earning medalist honors.
"Mark is coming off two great summers of golf, culminating with him competing at the U.S. Amateur," Parker said. "He is a talented player that his brother and the entire team look forward to adding to our mix. Both Charles and Mark have the talent and ability to contribute right away."
The golf team begins its fall season the weekend of Sept. 15-16 at the Cornell Invitational.
