HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Dartmouth volleyball went 1-1 at the Hofstra Asics Invitational, taking down Seton Hall, 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-23) before falling to the host, 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 19-25, 23-25). The Big Green are now 3-5 on the season.
Freshman
Nicole Liddle led the team with 34 kills and a .366 hitting percentage for a total of 34 points. Classmate
Annemarie Horn had 44 assists, senior
Zoe Leonard was first with 34 digs and sophomore
Olympia Nagel-Caland had six total blocks.
"We played two very physical matches tonight and saw some improvement from last week, both offensively and defensively," head coach Gilad Doron said. "Olympia and Nicole carried our offensive load today. We will get some rest tonight and be ready to battle again tomorrow."

Dartmouth vs. Seton Hall
Liddle had a career-high 21 kills, a .462 hitting percentage, five digs and 21 points. Horn was first with 25 assists, sophomore
Tola Akinwumi led the team with four total blocks, and Leonard had 15 digs.

A good start to the first set by the Pirates put them ahead, 6-2, but four Seton Hall errors and a trio of Liddle kills put the Big Green up, 9-7. The teams traded points until the Pirates pull ahead (15-13), but seven straight Dartmouth points made it a 20-15 set. Seton Hall kept fighting, while kills by Liddle, junior
Abby Kott and sophomore
Mallen Bischoff ended the set (25-19). Â

The Pirates came out aggressively to take an 8-1 lead in set two, but Dartmouth found its groove and three kills by Akinwumi and three errors on the other side of the net gave the Green an 11-10 advantage. The teams tied the score three times before Dartmouth pulled ahead (19-15). Seton Hall put some pressure on the visitors and got within one point (22-21), but the Big Green held on to make it a 2-0 match (25-22).

Dartmouth jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the third set, but a 5-1 Seton Hall run put the Pirates up, 8-6. Five ties later and the Pirates still managed to take a two-point lead (15-13) before kills by Liddle and Bischoff and a Seton Hall error made it a 16-15 match in Dartmouth's favor. An additional four ties made it a 22-22 set and an ace by Nagel-Caland and two kills by Liddle ended the match (25-23).

Dartmouth vs. Hofstra
Nagel-Caland led the team with 14.5 points after a career-high 13 kills, three digs and three total blocks, while Liddle was right behind with 13 kills and five digs for a total of 13 points. Horn led with 19 assists and Leonard was first with 19 digs.

There were seven ties before the teams got to the 10th point of the first set, but the Green took off from there and soon had a 20-13 advantage. Although Hofstra outscored Dartmouth, 6-5, to close the set, the Green ended up with the first win of the match following kills by Nagel-Caland, freshman
Emma Moffet and Liddle (25-20).

The Pride controlled the start of set two and had a 12-7 advantage before long. The Green would get a point or two closer, only to Hofstra pull away once again. Trailing, 16-10, an 8-4 Dartmouth run thanks to kills by sophomore
Leeza Poselski (2), Bischoff (2) and Nagel-Caland (2) and Liddle, and a Hofstra error made it a two-point set (20-18). The Big Green fought until the end, but fell just short of a comeback (25-20).

Hofstra carried its win into the next set, taking the first five points of the third set before a kill by Bischoff got Dartmouth on the board. The Pride had a 10-point lead (17-7) until six in a row from three Hofstra errors and kills by Akinwumi (2) and Nagel-Caland pulled the Green within four (17-13). The Pirates' 8-2 run made it a 2-1 match (25-19).

Ten ties occurred in a close fourth set. Locked at 20-20, a Moffet kill and a Hofstra error put Dartmouth three points away from victory (22-20), but a bit of back-and-forth play had the team tied once again (23-23). Two more points for the Pirates ended the match (25-23).

On Saturday, the Big Green will face St. Francis (Brooklyn) and Fordham at the Battle of the Big Apple.
