THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth women's rugby team will play at home for the second of three consecutive weekends, hosting undefeated Harvard. This is also the Big Green's 40th reunion weekend.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
No. 1 Dartmouth women's rugby had a dominating win over No. 9 Brown in its home opener at Brophy Field on Saturday, taking down the Bears by a score of 98-7.
Â
This is Dartmouth's second highest scoring game since a 110-0 win over Columbia on Sept. 24, 2016.
Â
Nine different members of the team scored 14 tries.
Emily Henrich led the offensive charge with three tries and six conversions for a career-high 27 points.
Allison Tong,
Kathleen Mulligan,
Jules Wheaton and
Grace Player all scored the first tries of their careers.
Â
A try by
Sophie Ragg just over a minute into the first half set the pace of the game and, over the next 39 minutes, Dartmouth would score nine more tries and had seven conversions to take a 64-0 lead over Brown heading into the intermission. Henrich was on fire and led the way with two tries and five good kicks for 22 points, while Ragg was close behind with 15 points from three tries.
Â
It took seven minutes for Dartmouth to find the tryline to start the second half but easily found its stride to score five tries and have two good conversions over the first 25 minutes to further extend its lead over the Bears (93-0). With less than 10 minutes to go, Brown ended its scoreless drought by getting seven points on the board, but the Big Green responded four minutes later with a
Camille Johnson try.
NIRAÂ RANKINGS
Dartmouth remains first in the third NIRA rankings that were released this week and, for the second week, Harvard is sitting in second. The Crimson are one of only four teams that remain undefeated this season. The other three are Dartmouth, AIC (1-0) and Mount St. Mary's (2-0).
Â
SCOUTING HARVARD
The Crimson have had a good start to their season, taking down defending national champion Quinnipiac (32-19) the weekend before defeating Army West Point (28-17).
Â
LAST TIME AGAINST THE CRIMSON
Dartmouth and Harvard met three times last season, and the Big Green won all three matches: a 39-10 regular season win, a 22-8 victory to claim their third consecutive Ivy Rugby title, and a 17-12 win to advance to the NIRA Varsity Final. In the semifinal match,
Kat Ramage led the team with seven points from a successful kick for points and a pair of conversions, while
Frankie Sands and Johnson both had a try to end the day with five points apiece.
Â
NEXT UP FOR DARTMOUTH
The Big Green will next take on American International College (AIC) on Saturday, Oct. 6 at home. This will be just the second time the teams have met during the regular season and the fourth time overall.
