ITHACA, N.Y. – Dartmouth volleyball ended its weekend in New York with a 3-0 loss to Cornell (19-25, 18-25, 13-25) on Saturday evening. The Big Green fell to 5-8 and 1-2 in conference action, while the Big Red improved 8-5 and 3-0.
Freshman
Nicole Liddle led with 13 digs, while classmate
Annemarie Horn was first with 14 assists and
Bella Hedley had two of the team's four service aces.
The Big Red took control of the first set early on, but a host of Cornell errors allowed Dartmouth to steal the lead (12-10). The home team responded by winning nine of the next 11 points to make it a 19-14 set. The Big Green continued to battle and got a few points closer following kills by junior
Carly Tower, and sophomores
Olympia Nagel-Caland and
Leeza Poselski before the Big Red shut the set down (25-19).
Cornell took off in set two, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. Dartmouth capitalized on a few Big Red errors and kills by Nagel-Caland, Tower, Petit and Liddle to stay in the game, but six unanswered Cornell points put the home team close to another victory (21-10). Dartmouth fought at the end, going on an 8-4 run and getting within six points, but the Big Red made it a 2-0 match (25-18).
The Big Green came out a lot stronger in the third set, staying within a few points and even tying the score after a Liddle kill (8-8), but the Big Red ran away with the lead and soon had an 18-9 edge. Sophomore
Mallen Bischoff and Nagel-Caland added one more kill apiece before Cornell ended it (25-13).
Dartmouth is back at home next weekend, hosting Princeton and Penn.
