THE HUNT FOR THE IVY LEAGUE CROWN BEGINS
Regular season non-conference play is behind us and we move ahead into the Ivy League schedule. Dartmouth begins its quest at Harvard Saturday afternoon at Levietes Pavilion. Both teams enter the game with identical 7-6 records.
BLOWING OUT THE BEARCATS
- Dartmouth finished non-conference play and celebrated the new year with a 63-39 victory over Binghamton at Leede Arena on Dec. 31.
- The 39 points for Binghamton was a season low for the Bearcats and the lowest number of points that Dartmouth has given up this season.
- Paula Lenart came away with a near double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds, she also added two steals and a blocked shot.
- Anna Luce led the Big Green in scoring for the second straight game, she finished with 15 points and was perfect from the free throw line, going 5-5.
- Kealy Brown filled the stat sheet with eight points, six rebounds, a game high four steals and two assists.
- Isalys Quinones finished with nine points, while Elle Louie posted six.
- Dartmouth held Binghamton to just seven points in the first quarter and six in the second, taking a 36-13 lead at halftime.
SCOUTING HARVARD
- Harvard enters Saturday's contest with an identical 7-6 record as Dartmouth and has also not played since late December.
- The Crimson are coming off an 85-79 upset win over No. 14 California on the road.
- It is the first time since 1998 that the Crimson have defeated a ranked opponent. They took down No. 1 ranked Stanford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
- Following the win, Katie Benzan was named the Ivy League and ESPNW National Player of the Week.
- Three players score in double figures for Harvard led by Katie Benzan who scores 14.8 ppg. Sydney Skinner averages 12.5 ppg and Jadyn Bush averages 10.5 ppg and leads the team with 8.4 rpg.
- Harvard is third in the Ivy League with 122 3-pointers made and leads the conference with a .356 3-point percentage.
- The Crimson have played a tough schedule against teams like Notre Dame, Purdue, Quinnipiac and Rutgers.
- They also played Boston University and won, 67-47. Dartmouth defeated BU, 64-44.
LAST SEASON AGAINST THE CRIMSON
- Dartmouth split the season series last season with Harvard, winning at home and losing on the road.
- At home, the Big Green won, 63-56 and were led by Cy Lippold's 19 points. Olivia Smith and Quinones were also in double figures.
- Lippold led the Big Green with 17 points in the second game at the Crimson, where Dartmouth fell, 76-65.
- Kate Letkewicz and Andi Norman each had 12 points for Dartmouth.
ALL-TIME AGAINST HARVARD
- Dating back to 1976, these teams have faced each other 82 times and Harvard holds a 47-35 record over Dartmouth.
- Since 2000, Dartmouth is 16-25 against the Crimson.
- Dartmouth and Harvard have started Ivy League play against each other in each of the last 18 seasons.
- Harvard holds an 11-7 record in those contests.
HANDLING THE AMERICA EAST
- The Big Green finished their non-conference schedule by going 4-0 against teams from the America East Conference.
- Dartmouth picked up wins at Vermont (66-42), home against UMass Lowell (70-54), at New Hampshire (62-42) and home against Binghamton (63-39).
- Dartmouth has won these games by a margin of 21 points and are shooting 41% percent compared to 32% for its opponents.
- Three players averaged double figures in these games. Quinones led the way with 11.3 ppg, and 5.0 rpg. Annie McKenna was not far behind in the scoring category, she averaged 11.0 ppg, 5.2 apg and 3.3 rpg. Cy Lippold averaged 10.5 ppg, dished out 14 assists and pulled down 3.0 rpg.
- Anna Luce is averaging 8.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg against America East teams, while Kealy Brown is scoring 7.3 ppg and leads the team with 3.0 spg. Paula Lenart averaged 5.8 ppg and 7.8 rpg, while Elle Louie scored 5.3 ppg and pulled down 4.0 rpg.
KEEPING IT LUCE
- Anna Luce has become a scoring threat off the bench for the Big Green.
- She is second on the team in scoring average with 9.0 ppg in 10 games played this season.
- Luce has been the leading scorer for the Big Green in the last two games. She scored 19 points at Boston College and followed that up with a game high 15 points at home against Binghamton.
- She is perfect from the free throw line this season, going 17-17 so far this year.
SPEAKING OF THE BENCH
- The Big Green bench has outscored the opponent's bench in nine of the 13 games so far this season.
- Dartmouth's bench has a +4.6-scoring margin over other team's bench players.
- The bench is led by the sophomore duo of Luce and Elle Louie who are averaging 14.1 points between them.
- Louie leads the group with 16 steals and seven blocked shots over the first 13 games of the season.
- Emily Dryden, Katie Douglas, Asha Taylor and Jimena Abejon have all added valuable minutes off the bench for the Big Green this season.
