Dartmouth Defeats Quinnipiac on Senior Day

HANOVER, N.H. – Five players scored their first tries of the season in Dartmouth women's rugby's 52-38 victory over Quinnipiac on Senior Day at Brophy Field on Saturday.
Freshman Kristin Bitter led the team with 12 points from a try and six conversions, while junior Idia Ihensekhien was second with two tries.
"We're happy to secure the win and continue building toward the postseason," head coach Katie Dowty said. "A lot of players are growing exponentially with more game experience and we are excited to see what this group can do if we keep increasing our consistency. It was also a beautiful day to celebrate our seniors on homecoming in front of friends, family and alumni. These 20s have a legacy they can be very proud of and will surely look to finish the season with a bang."
The first half was eventful, with a combined six tries being scored. A season-first try for junior captain Marin Pennell, a career-first score for freshman Anyoko Sewavi and two Bitter conversions gave Dartmouth (2-2) a 14-0 edge before Quinnipiac (2-4) responded a few minutes later.
Sophomore Sophia Haley increased the Green's lead at the 21-minute mark with her first of the year, but the Bobcats got within a try and a conversion shortly after (19-12). Two tries by Ihensekhien and pair of good kicks by Bitter within 10 minutes got Dartmouth out of danger and gave the home team a 33-12 lead heading into halftime.
Continuing with the trend, sophomore Abigail Schill scored her first collegiate try in the early parts of the second half and, after another one for the Bobcats, Bitter scored and made her own conversion (47-19). Senior Allison Tong had her first try of the season during her last game at Brophy to keep the Big Green comfortably ahead. Quinnipiac came alive soon after, scoring three consecutive tries, but time ran out before any real damage was done.
In two weeks, Dartmouth will be on the road for the Ivy Rugby Championship.
