Haylay Soriano tied the match in the 53rd minute
HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's soccer picked up its first point in the Ivy League with a 1-1 draw against Columbia Saturday at Burnham Field. Hayley Soriano scored the equalizing goal in the 53rd minute.
The Big Green are now 9-5-1 and 0-4-1 in the Ivy League and led 6-4 in shots on goal. The Lions move to 8-3-3 and 2-1-2 in the conference. Mariel Gordon finished with five saves.
"We played hard tonight with a ton of intensity and were able to get a positive result against a good Columbia team," said head coach Ron Rainey. "This is how we want to play, and we will keep this up as we prepare for Harvard."
Columbia found the back of the net in the 14th minute on its third shot of the match. The ball was crossed in and touched off to Emily Koe, who gave the Lions a 1-0 advantage.
Dartmouth wasted no time evening the score in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Mollie McGorisk handled the ball on the left side of the six-yard box and found a cutting Soriano who kicked a grounder past the goal line and in.
The Big Green defense stepped up throughout the remainder of regulation and both overtimes, withstanding seven shots from the Lions. Dartmouth had six more shots of its own for the rest of the match.
Dartmouth plays its final road match of the season on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Harvard.
