PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore winger
Drew O'Connor scored twice and had an assist for his second straight three-point game as the Dartmouth men's hockey team defeated Brown, 4-1, Saturday night at Meehan Auditorium.
Â
For O'Connor and the Big Green (3-2-1, 3-1-1 ECAC Hockey), they are now in the midst of a three-game win and four-game unbeaten streak after sweeping Yale and the Bears (2-4-0, 2-4-0 ECAC Hockey) on the weekend.
Â
Senior netminder
Adrian Clark was outstanding, stopping 23 shots to earn the win. Several of those saves were of the emphatic variety, flashing the leather and denying Brown's top forwards throughout.
Â
The Green opened the scoring with 4:58 remaining in the opening frame as junior defenseman
Brendan Less netted his first of the season on a second-chance opportunity on the slot. O'Connor built on that lead with his first of the night on the power play just a minute and 24 seconds later, finishing a great feed across the top of the crease from
Quin Foreman with his first of two assists in the game.
Â
Just 30 seconds into the second period, Dartmouth made it 3-0 as
Will Graber intercepted a pass at center ice and blasted a shot into the top of the net for his fourth goal in three games.
Â
The Bears would answer back with just over a minute left in the middle stanza from Justin Jallen before O'Connor's second of the contest and third of the weekend sealed the win into the back of the empty net with 1.5 seconds left.
Â
Juniors
Joey Matthews and
Matt Baker and rookie
Tanner Palocsik all added assists as Dartmouth scored four goals for the second straight night to earn the difficult four-point road weekend.
Â
Matthews may have made the play of the game in his own end in the first period when he made a diving save with his leg in front of an open net. After Clark had turned aside the initial shot, the puck slipped to his right where Tristian Crozier was waiting. But his shot settled in the corner after the Big Green's junior defender dropped to his knees to make the block and keep the Bears off the board.
Â
The result gave Dartmouth its first road sweep since January 19-20 of last year in the North Country, taking down St. Lawrence and No. 2 Clarkson.
Â
There is now a two-weekend break for Dartmouth exams and Thanksgiving. The team is back in action at home on Friday, Nov. 6 against Colgate and again the following night against Cornell. Those two games will serve as the collection dates for the annual CHaD Toy Drive. More information regarding the event will be available on DartmouthSports.com in the next few days.
