HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's golf team will begin its slate of spring competition on Sunday at the FAU Winter Warmup hosted by Florida Atlantic University at Osprey Point in Boca Raton, Florida. Other schools competing at the event will be Brown, Columbia, Maryland, Tennessee, Oakland and the host school.
"All of us are looking forward to getting outside on the course," said
Alex Kirk, the Carolyn A. Pelzel '54a Head Coach of Women's Golf. "We are certainly fortunate to be able to prepare on our indoor simulator, but it is time to get outside and play in regular playing conditions. This will be a good test for us, and I expect us to get off to a good start."
Senior
Catharine Roddy, junior
Maddie Nelson, sophomore
Moon Cheong, and freshmen
Kristen Chen and
Kaitlyn Lees will all compete for the Big Green. Cheong is the defending medalist at the tournament having won the event as a freshman last year with a 2-over 146, and wrapped up the fall with a 78.2 stroke average.
Lees and Chen belied their experience last fall, posting the team's two best stroke averages (76.4 and 78.0, respectively) over nine rounds of play. Lees also had the best finish in any of the four tournaments, tying for ninth in her collegiate debut at the Dartmouth Invitational with a 3-over 147.
A two-time All-Ivy honoree and a co-captain, Roddy recorded the other top-10 finish, tying for 10th at the Brown Invitational with a 149 (+5). But her numbers were sabotaged in the final fall tournament, missing a round due to illness before playing at less than 100 percent in the final two rounds.
Nelson is returning to the links after missing the fall season. Last spring, she finished strong at the Ivy League Championship, improving in each of the final two rounds to tie for 13th.
