LYME, N.H. — Nine days after the Dartmouth Winter Carnival giant slalom was scheduled to be raced, the men and women of the EISA finally got their chance on the slopes at the Dartmouth Skiway, though it only counted as an NCAA qualifying race and was not scored as part of the carnival.
Big Green senior
Alexa Dlouhy took advantage of her home course and won the women's race with teammates
Tricia Mangan and
Stephanie Currie finishing second and fourth, respectively. A three-time All-American in the slalom, Dlouhy earned her first career podium — and victory — in the giant slalom after taking the lead after the first run by nearly half a second ahead of Mangan. On the second time down the mountain, she had the third-fastest time to easily maintain her spot at the top with a combined time of 2:02.36
Mangan had the second-best time on both runs, recording a time of 2:02.80, while Vermont's Mille Graesdal claimed the final step on the podium in 2:03.16. Currie leap-frogged over a pair of skiers on the second run to edge out another Catamount, Francesca English, for fourth in 2:014.15. Senior
Moriah Wilson made the most of her first opportunity to ski for the Big Green with a solid 14th-place finish following a strong second run with a combined time of 2:06.00
The men's race was very tight with Dartmouth being led by junior
Kipling Weisel in 2:01.79, just 0.32 seconds off the pace set by the champion, Patrick McConville of Vermont. Sophomore
Peter Fucigna parlayed a terrific second run — the second-fastest of the afternoon — to tie junior teammate
David Domonoske for ninth in 2:01.93.
The final carnival before the NCAA Championship on March 6-9 will take place this Friday and Saturday with the East Regional at Bates.
