HANOVER, N.H. – No. 28 Dartmouth men's tennis defeated No. 36 Memphis, 4-0, at the Boss Tennis Center on Friday evening. The Big Green improved to 6-4 overall, while the Tigers dipped to 8-3.
"That was a very good effort from our team tonight," head coach
Chris Drake said. "We have a lot of respect for Memphis and their program. The doubles point was back-and-forth, and we did a great job to win the long tiebreaker at No. 3. In singles, they kept fighting, but we stayed focused and were able to close out tight sets and matches."
In doubles, 19th ranked juniors
Charlie Broom and
David Horneffer had a 6-3 victory over their opponents at the No. 1 position while the other two matches went to a tiebreak. Sophomores
Peter Conklin and
Casey Ross put up a fight, but ultimately fell at the No. 2 position, 7-6(7), while classmates
John Speicher and
Dan Martin came away with a 7-6(11) victory at the No. 3 spot to give Dartmouth the first point.
