No. 39 Big Green Win Tough Match Against Bears

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After falling behind in singles, No. 39 Dartmouth men's tennis won the last two matches to defeat Brown by a score of 4-3 on Friday afternoon.
The Big Green improved to 13-6 overall and 2-1 in Ivy League, while the Bears fell to 8-10 and 1-3.
"This was a great effort for us to come out with a win today," head coach Chris Drake said. "Brown fought hard and played a great match. It's tough to win in their building and we managed to find the four points we needed. We had a lot of different guys contribute and step up in either singles or doubles. Sid and John came up clutch on court when we were down 3-2 and they still had their whole match to play. I'm very proud of the grit and toughness we showed and we're looking forward to playing at home versus Yale on Sunday."
Seventh-ranked juniors Charlie Broom and David Horneffer started doubles off with a 6-1 victory at the No. 1 spot, and the Bears followed that up with a 7-5 win on court two. Playing at the No. 3 position, sophomore Peter Conklin and freshman Pierce Widdecombe defeated Peter Litsky and Teddy van Eck to put Dartmouth up heading to singles.
No. 53 Broom gave the Green a 2-0 edge with his 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Litsky on court one, but three Brown victories in a row gave the Bears a 3-2 advantage. Freshman Sid Chari tied things up when he took down Roger Chou, 6-4, 7-6(5) at the No. 5 position and sophomore John Speicher clinched with his 7-6(4), 6-2 victory over Robert Siniakowicz.
Having played their last road match of the regular season, the Big Green will be at home for the remaining four, starting with Yale on Sunday.
