EGG HARBOR, N.J. — The Dartmouth men's golf team posted their best round of the Ivy League Championship on Sunday to maintain its place in a tie for fourth, wrapping up the three rounds with a 302-297-290—887 (+35) at Hidden Creek Country Club. Sophomores
Jason Liu and
Sam Ohno both carded a 7-over 220 for the tournament, tying for seventh to earn second-team All-Ivy League honors.
Princeton edged out Columbia for the title by a single stroke at 23-over par (875), while Yale's James Nicholas won medalist honors by two strokes with a 2-over 215.
The Big Green entered the final round tied with Penn for fourth, 13 strokes behind Princeton, and matched the Quakers with a 290 (+6), tied for the second-best score of the day. Only Columbia's 283 (-1) was better, and nearly lifted the Lions to the title.
Liu led Dartmouth on Sunday with a 71 (E) on the 7,003-yard, par-71 course, giving him a final line of 76-73-71—220. He was never more than one stroke away from par, taking a bogey on the fourth hole before sinking a birdie on the 329-yard, par-4 eighth. A bogey on nine left him 1-over at the turn, but birdies on 11 and 13 put him 1-under before a bogey on 16 evened him out again. Pars on the final two holes allowed him to remain in the top 10 for his spot on the second team.
While Liu was climbing eight spots in the standings with his final round, Ohno boosted himself from ninth to seventh with his 2-over 73 today. He put himself in position to make a run at the top of the leaderboard by reaching the turn at 2-under par with birdies on the third, eighth and ninth holes. But a pair double bogeys on the back nine knocked him back a bit before he closed with a birdie on 17 and a par on 18 to remain in the top 10 with Liu with a 72-75-73—220.
Freshman
Mark Turner also had a solid round thanks to 15 pars and a birdie on the eighth hole to card on 1-over 72 on Sunday. He scored a 75-75-72—222 (+9) to tie for 15th overall with four others.
Turner's older brother, sophomore
James Turner, played the front nine at ever par with seven pars and a birdie on the 390-yard, par-4 fifth hole. A birdie on 17 helped him finish the day at 3-over with a 74 to wrap up his tournament with a 226 (+13), tying him for 24th.
Senior
John Lazor also competed for the Big Green, sinking two birdies in his round of 78 (+7) to finish 31st with a 20-over 233.
Yale, which began the day two strokes behind Princeton for the lead, matched the Tigers with a 291 to place third with an 877 (+25). Harvard (890), Cornell (896) and Brown (930) rounded out the field.
