HANOVER, N.H. — The United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association announced its annual National Skiers and Coaches of the Year, as voted on by the association's membership, and Dartmouth's
Tanguy Nef and
Katharine Ogden each were chosen as the Skier of the Year for their respective genders and disciplines for the second consecutive year.
A junior from Geneva, Switzerland, Nef was chosen as the Men's Alpine Skier of the Year for the second straight year having won the giant slalom Individual NCAA Championship last month at Stowe, Vermont. He also held the lead after the first run of the slalom — the event he won at NCAAs last year — before finishing 27th after a mishap on his second run. During the carnival season, he won each of the four slalom races in which he competed.
Ogden, a sophomore from Landgrove, Vermont, successfully defended her classical crown at the NCAA Championships, winning the 15K by more than 23 seconds, giving her three individual national titles in two years with the Big Green. She also finished fourth in the 5K freestyle race to earn two first-team All-America honors. Ogden won all four classic races she participated in throughout the season and hit the podium nine times in 10 races for the Big Green.
Both Vermont and New Mexico also won two awards to complete the collection of honors bestowed. The Catamounts' Laurence St. Germain was named the Female Alpine Skier of the Year for winning both NCAA individual titles while Vermont's Patrick Weaver was chosen as the Nordic Coach of the Year. Ricardo Izquierdo-Bernier of New Mexico was the Male Nordic Skier of the Year as he matched Ogden' performance on the men's side, winning the classical race and finishing fourth in the freestyle. The Lobos' Joe Downing was named the Alpine Coach of the Year to complete the awards.
