THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth field hockey team continues its homestand with a pair of games at Chase Field this weekend against Princeton and UMass Lowell. The Saturday contest against the Tigers is the Ivy League opener for both teams.
LAST TIME OUT
• The Big Green split their weekend at home against UNH and Merrimack.
• Dartmouth dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 double overtime game last Friday to the cross-state rival Wildcats.
• In the first-ever meeting between the Big Green and the Warriors, Dartmouth came away with a convincing 4-1 win that included three fourth-quarter goals to put the game away.
TWO-FER
• Sophomore
Sara Falkson is usually known for keeping goals out of the cage, but on Sunday, she flipped the script and was responsible for a pair for her team.
• Falkson scored 28 seconds into the fourth quarter to put the home team up 2-0. With Merrimack finding the back of the cage later on, that first career goal would stand up as the game winner.
• She would add another later in the fourth quarter that made it a three-goal lead, 3-0, capping off her best offensive effort to date in a Dartmouth uniform.
TWO-FER FRIDAY
• It wasn't just Falkson who was a two-time goal scorer this weekend as
Carmen Braceras netted a pair against UNH.
• The senior notched her first of the afternoon in the 14th minute, before finding the back of the net again on a penalty stroke in the 53rd.
• With four tallies this season, Braceras leads the team in both goals and points (9).
SOOOOOOO CLOSE
• After needing to make just one save to pick up the win Sunday against Merrimack, sophomore goalkeeper
Isabella Santucci dropped from first in the nation to second in saves per game.
• In six games played this season, the Big Green keeper has averaged 9.33 stops per contest, second only to Sacred Heart's Bridget Kelly (9.44) and tied with Marcia LaPlante of Holy Cross, who Santucci defeated for her first career win a week ago.
SPEAKING OF STOPS
• Dartmouth has four defensive saves this season, tied with Yale for the top mark in the Ivy League and fifth best in the nation.
• With those defensive saves, coupled with Santucci's play in goal, the Green and White are tied for second in the nation in saves per game by a team with 10.0 along with Wagner.
• Sacred Heart leads the way with 11.11.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
• Princeton is 3-4 overall this season after a 4-3 overtime loss at No. 4 Maryland on Tuesday night.
• Every game the Tigers have played this season has been against a team ranked in the top-20 until Saturday's game in Hanover.
• Clara Roth leads the way with 13 points on four goals and a team-high five assists. Hannah Davey's five goals pace the team as well.
• Grace Baylis has played all 550 minutes in the cage this season with a 2.65 goals against average and a .630 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
• Three straight wins has UMass Lowell at 4-3 overall this season.
• The most recent of those wins was a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon at Columbia, the first of three games against Ivy teams in 2019.
• Barbel Rozema leads the team with seven points on two goals and three assists. Sofie Knook's three goals are the most on the team in seven games played.
• Eva Berkhout has been the goalie of record in each contest and has a 2.11 goals against average and a .613 save percentage.
AGAINST THESE TEAMS
• Dartmouth is looking to halt its current seven-game slide against Princeton dating back to 2012.
• A 2-1 home win on Sept. 17, 2011 was the last time the Green and White came away from the match-up with a victory and started the conference schedule 1-0.
• Sunday's game is the 11th between Dartmouth and UML with the Green holding an 8-2 edge. Both River Hawk wins have come in the last decade as the teams have alternated victories in the last four meetings with Dartmouth taking last year's game in Lowell, 2-1, with Persin and Spanos scoring late to cap the comeback.
A WIN WOULD…
• …Be much better than a loss.
• …Be the first in an Ivy opener since 2011 when Dartmouth defeated Princeton at home, 2-1.
• …Be the 363rd in program history (362-346-33).
