ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore defenseman
Tanner Palocsik scored his first career goal and had his sixth multi-point game of the season, but it wasn't enough as the No. 20Â Dartmouth men's hockey team fell, 3-2, on the road to No. 1 Cornell Friday night at Lynah Rink.
Â
The Big Green (10-6-3, 7-4-1 ECAC Hockey) had leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but the top-ranked Big Red (14-1-3, 9-1-1 ECAC) stormed back each time and eventually took their first lead early in the third and made it stick.
Cam Strong got the scoring started with his third of the season at the 7:53 mark of the opening frame. Tristan Mullin tied it on the power play nearly eight minutes later, however.
Â
Palocsik's point blast just 1:10 into the second gave the visiting Big Green another lead, one they held for 14 minutes before Cam Donaldson's wrist shot on an odd-man clanged in off in the inside of the far post to tie the game and send the teams to the dressing room tied at 2-2.
Â
Jeff Malott would net the winner at 4:16 of the third, helping Cornell to another home win to remain perfect (6-0-1) at Lynah this season.
Â
Although saddled with the loss, the star of the game was Dartmouth's senior netminder
Adrian Clark, who made 35 saves to hold the nation's top team in check nearly all night. Several of those stops were spectacular pad saves or with the glove when it appeared the team in red would find the back of the net.
Â
For Palocsik, he continues to pace rookie defenseman in scoring this season with 15 points (1-14-15), a figure that ranks third amongst all ECAC Hockey defenders. His six multi-point efforts thus far rank second on the team behind only leading scorer
Drew O'Connor's seven.
Â
In addition to the rookie blueliner,
Sam Hesler,
Jeff Losurdo and
Daniel Warpecha all picked up helpers.
Â
Dartmouth's 2-1 home win against Cornell on Dec. 7 remains the lone blemish on the year for the Big Red.
Â
The Big Green continue the road trip Saturday night in Hamilton, New York, taking on Colgate at 7:30 p.m. The Raiders are the only team in 2019-20 to beat Dartmouth at home as the Green and White seek a measure of payback with a win on their foe's home sheet of ice.
